WEDDING PLANNING TIMELINE

Your wedding planning timeline is a tool where you can keep all wedding details together for quick reference at any given time. It will help you keep track of all tasks and when you accomplish them. While every couple has their process and every wedding is a little different, the list below should serve as a good road map on your way to say “I do!”

12 Months Before the Wedding

• Host an engagement party

• Set your wedding budget

• Visit a few bridal shows

• Start researching themes, styles, and vendors

• Start planning your guest list

• Set a date 

• Book your ceremony and reception venues

• Book you wedding photographer

• Have your engagement photography session so you have images for your save-the-date cards and your wedding website

• Enroll for premarital counseling

• Assemble your bridal party

• Create your wedding planning team (hire a wedding planner, ask friends and determine what family members you can count on to help tackle these tasks)


8-9 Months Before the Wedding

• Book remaining vendors like caterers, cake decorators, entertainment, transportation, officiant and florists

• Shop for your wedding dress & bridesmaids dresses so you have enough time for alterations

• Pick out and purchase all necessary undergarments

• Reserve hotel for you and guests
(if not part of the venue)

• Create your wedding website


6 Months Before the Wedding

• Plan your wedding registry

• Send out the save-the-date cards


3-4 Months Before the Wedding

• Purchase your wedding bands

• Plan and book your honeymoon

• Organize groom/groomsmen attire

• Attend your wedding shower

• Book your hair and spa appointments


2 Months Before the Wedding

• Organize wedding favors and bridal party gifts

• Plan the transportation for bridal party and guests

• Send out the wedding invitations

• Finalize the menu


6 Weeks Before the Wedding

• Finalize your vows

• Apply for a marriage license


2-4 Weeks Before the Wedding

• Have a haircut and spa day

• Attend pre-wedding celebrations and bachelor/bachelorette parties

• Final dress fitting

• Have your hair and makeup trial and follow up bridal portraits and boudoir sessions to see how it all comes together

• Go through RSVPs

• Create a wedding program for the ceremony

• Arrange for meals on your big day

• Deliver final song list to DJ/entertainment

• Provide vendors with emergency phone numbers and contact information

• Pay all vendors, so you do not have to do it on your wedding day


1 Week Before the Wedding

• Pick up any last-minute items

• Finalize the seating chart

• Provide the final headcount to the venue and caterers

• Finalize the “day of” schedule

• Put together your wedding day emergency kit


2-3 Days Before the Wedding

• Get a manicure done


1 Day Before the Wedding

• Decorate the ceremony and reception locations

• Enjoy your wedding rehearsal
